Spiraling, speculative synths are the primary driving force on this heaving remix of The Phantom's "Ceremony" by Belgian producer Ultravid. Pretty, luminescent, and punctuated with Night Slugs-style drops that transport the tune into hi-hat laden mayhem, Ultravid has clearly set his sights on unsuspecting dancefloors. Complete with cowbells and slurred vocals, the remix seduces a dancer into a lull before diving into grimey bass stabs and riding a syncopated house beat. Out in late May/early June, The Phantom's EP2 Remixes will also feature Mike Q & Divoli S'vere, BD1982, and Optimum on remix duties. You can stream a preview of the EP, after the jump.

Yesterday however, they released their finest piece of work to date in my opinion. I am beyond excited for the release of Eric Prydz' latest project Pryda. Today I've got "Allein" and "Mighty Love", both great tracks that are true to form from the legendary Swede. TIGER & WOODS (LIVE) at CIRQUE

Tiger & Woods, consisting of Larry Tiger and David Woods, are a secretive musical duo that often hides behind a fierce looking leopard logo. They’ve recently garnered much attention for their funk infused disco, which has probably gotten them more ass than the real Tiger Woods circa 2010.
Their latest release “Through the Green” got them an 8.2 on Pitchfork media, with the track “Gin Nation” even making it on the sites top 100 tracks of 2011 list, coming in at a solid 83. For the past few months, Tiger & Woods have been touring the world, selling out clubs in New York, London, and Miami.
While the lack of information regarding their personal histories is frustrating, especially if you fantasies involving a hotel room and bubble baths, the epicness of this dream team cannot be denied. The only scary part is that these dudes are just getting started.
So if you want to experience the magic that is Tiger & Woods, come by FIVESIXTY (560 Seymour Street) on May 25. Tickets are only $15.00 in advance and are available online and at the following locations: Red Cat, Puff, Zulu, Highlife and Beatstreet.

Kendrick Lamar Announced as Fourth Member of Ghost Recon Future Soldier's Team Ghost

Ghost Recon Future Soldier has secured their fourth Team Ghost Member in the West Coast all-star Kendrick Lamar. A self-proclaimed gamer "since Sega Genesis", Lamar is looking forward to being part of a celebrity soldier team including NBA's Kevin Love, NFL's Kevin Blackmon and Mrs. Ice-T, Coco, all of whom are coming together in anticipation of the game's release on May 22nd.
In addition to playing as an online gunner with Team Ghost, he took a few pages from the rap game book and dropped an exclusive track for the game titled "War Is My Love", recording the track before he had played Ghost Recon Future Soldier by drawing from what he imagined the game to look and feel like.

Selah Sue - "Raggamuffin" (Remix) (Feat. J. Cole)

To say Selah Sue's self-tiled debut album released in 2011 was a commercial success is an understatement seeing as the album recently was certified five-times platinum in Europe. The Belgian singer-songwriter's hit single "Ruggamuffin," which was recently released here in the U.S. last week via iTunes, captivated the attention of a certain Roc Nation artist by the name of J. Cole and subsequently spawned an unlikely collaboration between the two artists.
While the pairing may seem odd to some the actual products is quite a treat. The Supa Dups produced remix features two well placed verses from Cole. While I liked the original, I see no reason not to vibe out and enjoy this surprising remix. Stream both the original and the remix below and revisit the video for "Ruggamuffin" which originally appeared on Sue's 2008 Black Part Love EP.

South London Ordnance "Shutter Island"

South London Ordnance, a young producer from, well, South London, is celebrating his 1000th Facebook like with a free track, the deep "Shutter Island." The track flitters about on the fuzzy line between UK garage and more straightforward deep house, serving up seven enjoyable minutes of distant organ stabs, 808 claps and rimshots, and reverb-laden samples. The producer just dropped his debut 12" via 2nd Drop and has several more releases in store for the rest of the calendar year, including records on the Audio Culture and Well Rounded Housing Project imprints. It’s been more than a decade since Lotus first started making music, but I must confess that it’s been a few years since I’ve seen them. The height of my fixation on the electro-jammers from Philly (by way of Indiana) came just as they dropped their third full-length album Hammerstrike at the end of 2008, an effort that sent me diving into their archive to find long-lost live shows and scrambling for tickets every time they cruised through.
That was then. For the past few years, they’ve dropped off my radar, so much so that they even came out with another record – 2011’s self-titled fourth album – that I did not even realize had been released. So when they popped up to play two nights at Irving Plaza last weekend, I started bumping the new album (Spotify saves the day again) and dipping back into the band’s catalog once more.
It was clear by the end of the first set, as Massif wound down to its electric conclusion, that Lotus had not been idle in the three years. I simply slept on them. The light show, which was once boxy and muted, had evolved into a multi-dimensional, dynamic part of the show, adding a new element to their performance. The tight, driving grooves that have long defined their sound were back in full force, but this time around had a elasticity that allowed the quintet to bounce from jam to jam with more coherence, cutting out the dead-end forays of previous years and replacing them with more determined, purposeful adventures. Nowhere was this more evident than on “Tip of the Tongue,” an admitted favorite of mine from 2006’s The Strength of Weak Ties, that bounced off into a massive build before breaking back into the slick, laid-back chorus again, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Lotus, in every way possible, is continuously evolving.

This is only his third video after garnering major attention with only two visuals and a mixtape set to drop anytime in June. Dillon is a 19 year old kid form Brooklyn who's temporarily relocated to Boston for schooling at Berklee College of Music. After deciding music was what he wanted to do he dropped out to chase his fame. He seems to be off to a great start because this video is incredibly professional and he has bars for days. DESIGN: International Contemporary Furniture Fair 2012

The International Contemporary Furniture Fair starts this Saturday May 19th through the 22nd at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. ICFF brings the international design community together and showcases the best in products, accessories, furniture, textiles, and building materials. While the event is geared toward design professionals, the final day is open for the public to view at $50 a ticket. In addition to getting your yearly design fix, the furniture showrooms open up to ICFF attendees with ritzy events offering food, wine, and sometimes tunes, and some of these parties rival the average NYC lounge or bar.

LIVE: Big K.R.I.T., Live From The Underground Album Listening Party, Fight Klub Studios, NYC

It is one thing to be an artist and people check in every now and then to see what you have “new” that is going to drop. It is another thing to be an artist whose rise to fame sort of crept up on everyone and is now the next big thing. In Big K.R.I.T.’s case, not only is he the “next best thing”, he IS probably one of the best. There is nothing “next” about this southern gentleman. He’s it. With an ever growing fan base and continued support from nationwide radios, it was only a matter of time before K.R.I.T. finally received the opportunity to do what he does best- show out. If you aren’t familiar, peep his story– Dropped See Me On Top, Vol. 1, 2, AND 3, Hood Fame, and The Last King before even being considered an underground phenom. K.R.I.T. Wuz Here happened and hip hop went into a frenzy. Who is this kid? Where did he come from? Did he just….How he gon…..YUP. That was him. Riding off the wave of his new found popularity, he then dropped Return Of 4Eva which not only solidified the genius of the Mississippi artist, but made him a force to be reckoned with. And no..its not just because his charm is that powerful (even though it is) or his smile is that captivating (even though it is). K.R.I.T. is a beast on the lyrical and production content. This well rounded artist doesn’t just make hits for the rappity rap fans. He discusses things that are personal such as his relationship with his grandmother, growing up in the south, struggles with the label, his dealings with women, social and political consciousness, strip club love, and love for cars. All the things that if you are from the south, you can relate and appreciate. Even if you are not, you still understand him and can feel the stories he shares with his listeners. So, The Last King 2 dropped, which highlight many of this collaborations and productions he’s been a part of over the years. His most recent effort, 4EvaNaDay, was received with much anticipation from his loyal supporters. Why? Because this signified the last step before the big production. Everyone, self included, have been waiting for Live From The Underground (LFTU) since September 27th (the original release date…which also happened to be my birthday, but I digress). The mixtape was only able to hold folks over for a little while. Fans gets antsy after a long wait. This is nothing new. You could say “well..thats hip hop”. Nevertheless, the one thing I can share to ease anyone’s mind who will read this is that Live From the Underground is officially worth the wait.
Held in the Midtown West section of NYC, Fight Klub Studios hosted this tremendous event. Free liquor and chicken wings for everyone was an added taste to the lure of this event ( and come on…who doesn’t love free food and drinks?). The line was tight, inside of the venue even tighter. Folks waited almost 2 hours just to get in and hear a snippet of what K.R.I.T. was offering for the people. DJ Wally Sparks spun the records of the highly anticipated studio release as K.R.I.T. explained the significance of each song on the album. Everyone was in attendance. Major record label representatives to tastemakers to fans who snuck in and jumped on the elevator, to locals who walked by and asked what the event was for. Everyone who was anyone was there. And for good reason.
So I know you all are waiting to hear what it sounds like, right? Well, for starters, it is not much of a variation from his mixtapes in the sense that his production style is the same. Heavy bass, that soul-hop style music where you can go flex on the strip or ride around and get it…get it? It has that chill factor that we all know and love about K.R.I.T.. The laid back, southern style emceeing with a touch of jazz, a sprinkle of soul, and a pinch of …dare I say, gospel? No, he’s not preaching on this album, but his words are truth. No crafty punchlines to appease the rap critic or anything of that nature. Just pure, unadulterated truth. The features on the album are mind blowing. Melanie Fiona is featured on the trasparent track “If I Fall”, while Devin the Dude appears on “Hydroplaning”. The track which I can already feel will be my favorite is “Praying Man” featuring the magnificent BB King. When introducing this track, you can feel the excitement in K.R.I.T.’s voice as he discussed how honored and blessed he was working with the legend. ”Porchlight” is another track that I believe will grab the attention of most folks as Anthony Hamilton lends his awesome vocals. From beginning to end, the album is a smooth listen. I’m sure the ladies will love the bonus features which include a remix of “Temptation” featuring Juicy J and Waka Flocka and anyone who bumped “Me And My Old School” from 4EvaNaDay, yup, there is a remix on there for you too. “Money On The Floor”, his already popular single which features 8Ball, MJG, and 2 Chainz (2 CHAAAAAAAAAIINZ..sorry..it was necessary), is a hit. Other features on the album include his partner in music, Big Sant, Ludacris, and his mentor, Bun B. He also has voice features from his beloved grandmother, Ms. Linnie, who left him tapes with her singing, praying, and speaking. K.R.I.T. told the audience how not only did she leave them for him, but he never retouched her vocals. Every thing you hear her say is her in raw form. She’s an amazing presence on the album, which gives it that final inside look to K.R.I.T..

EVENT: The Great Googa Mooga (Preview!)

THE GREAT GOOGA MOOGA IS COMING!
It sounds like a monster… and it is one. A festival consisting of the best food in New York City and a lineup of killer music (hello, The Roots and Hall & Oates?), May 19 & 20 are going down in the foodie history books.
Brought to you by a team of collaborators, including culinary moguls Anthony Bourdain, Tom Colicchio, David Rockwell, Garrett Oliver, Paul Grieco, and Eddie Huang, Googa Mooga will transform Brooklyn’s Prospect Park into a curated “amusement park” of culinary delights.
About 75 food vendors will be there, among them: Blue Ribbon, Num Pang, Momofuku Milk Bar, Big Gay Ice Cream, Russ & Daughters, Hill Country Barbecue, and the list goes on. And on. And on. You have to wash down all that food with something, so there will be a plethora of wine and beer vendors, such as: Bethel Heights Vineyard, Magic Hat, Red Hook Winery, Southampton Publick House, and Brooklyn Brewery (duh).
General admission tickets have been long gone, but you can still swipe some Extra Mooga tickets, which earn you special treatment and all kinds of goodies.
If you can’t make it, Couch Sessions will be there this weekend to get you the lowdown on Googa Mooga, both from the food and music perspectives. I don’t even know what to expect, but I do know that I’ll definitely be wearing my stretchy pants.

Kubbi - "Motivation"

I'll admit, I'm more of a retro gamer than anything. I don't own an Xbox 360 or a PS3. I do own a Wii, but it's just a $200 white Netflix machine. What the hell does this have to do with anything you may ask. The fact that I like older games relate to the style of Kubbi, who has a unique style of using these 8-bit and 16-bit sounds that you can frequently hear from old console games. Kubbi is from Norway and makes tracks like "Motivation" in his free time. He admits that he finds his own work boring and uninteresting, but I beg to differ. I've only came across a few producers with Kubbi's style, and I'm glad I found another.
"Motivation" will throw you into a videogame world in the first several seconds of the song. But then it transports you back into the real world and into the dance floor. It's like being in a videogame dance floor, if you can imagine that. His creative style really grew on me when I listened to his other tunes. There isn't too much to say about "Motivation", other than that it is quirky, catchy, and unique.
It makes me want to go dust of my old NES and play Duck Hunt.

"Teklife or No Life" is the title track from DJ Earl's first EP (artwork above) for the ghetto-leaning Moveltraxx imprint out of France, a hub which is already home to releases by Traxman, DJ Rashad, DJ Clent, and more. The label is pushing Earl as the latest chapter in the ongoing Chicago juke/footwork explosion, and this track certainly keeps up with the finest of the Windy City's producers. The young Chicago native propels "Teklife" with ghetto-house-influenced percussion, all clicking about a noodling, seductive synth whine. Shaky Snakes - "Clark Drive Sunrise" [Premiere]

What do you do in your apartment? On second thought, don't answer that question. Too many activities could be said and none of that is relevant because the spotlight is on Shaky Snakes today. Currently residing in Vancouver, Canada, Shaky Snakes makes music from his home, which happens to be an apartment. This is the part where I tell you how his music differs from all the DIY musicians and this time, you WILL be sold.
Our premiere is taken from Shaky Snakes' Del Boca Vista, his latest EP. The record is a short little collection of intricate experimental layers empowered by bleary components of melancholic drones. If you're a fan of Washed Out's distant vocals and the obscure auto-tuned Sufjan Stevens, then you'll really appreciate the lo-fi utterances of Shaky Snakes. Del Boca Vista is where folk-tronic meets its destiny with hazy pop. The exclusive track, titled "Clark Drive Sunrise" has a suspenseful undertone between the sounds of ocean waves and his voice being dauntingly compressed. It lingers through your ears and the rest of your body in a wistful yet satisfying manner.
Snakes says the sample was from a British piano man, adding "I wrote it with a very specific visual in mind; driving in the early morning, in slow-motion - right into the rising sun - all lens flare and bluriness. The words are based on a mantra I try to remind myself of as much as possible: don't worry about others or what they think about you. Do your thing and follow your heart and/or the sun."
Tomorrow, Shaky Snakes will release Del Boca Vista for free on his bandcamp. He will also have a limited amount of cassette tapes available via Purr Tapes. Support the cause and pre-order it below.

In a genre full of bragging, boasting, sex & gun toting it's good to have artists like Kero One making the kind of positive, lighthearted music he's known for.If you're looking for complex lyricism, unfortunately you will fail to quench your thirst, but if you're looking for a fix of chill & at times socially concious music by an honest artist then you simply cannot overlook this Korean-American rapper.
This particular cut is off of his third album, Kinetic World, an album that actually came out almost two years ago. Now I'm not entirely sure what the intention of releasing a video so late is, maybe to breathe new life into the album? Either way I'm happy to see one of my favourite songs off of Kinetic World with visuals.

Steven A. Clark - "Chemistry" [Video]

Fayetteville,North Carolina native/Miami-based singer-songwriter Steven A. Clark recently unveiled the accompanying visuals to his recently liberated Mr. Familiar produced track "Chemistry." The visuals, to quote a line from the song's hook, are "out of this world" and abstract. Created and edited by Free LVE, the near three-minute video contains excerpts from Russian writer/director Mikhail Karzhukov's 1962 sci-fi film, Battle Beyond the Sun.

While Clark is absent from the video, that in no way affects the vid's ability to connect with and convey the song's message. I personally feel some of the most creative and entertaining vids are those in which the artist are not present. When family visits, this usually means you’re going to eat, and you’re going to eat really, really well. My birthday plus Mother’s Day meant that we needed a brunch spot that would not mess around. Having just opened about two months ago, Redwood Kitchenette & Bar has already manifested itself as my new Chelsea staple.
Redwood is the restaurant that, if you could, you would live in it. It’s bright and sunny, and the walls open up to let the breeze in, perfect for Sunday’s beautiful weather. The bar is set up in an Airstream trailer, adding to the retro-nostalgic feel of the place, and the outside dining area is even surrounded by a white picket fence.
It has that kitschy diner-y feel down pat without being too over-the-top, especially in the food: all the dishes are classic American comfort foods with a couple modern twists. Starters were drinks (mimosas and beer – we had to celebrate!) plus their house-made fries and crispy onions.
Three out of four of us had steak and eggs ($17), because really, how can you turn down steak and eggs? Whoever made it socially acceptable to eat steak in the morning needs to be immediately inducted in to sainthood. Redwood’s unique take on the dish is a fried poached egg, with the steak resting atop fingerling potatoes and asparagus.
We also welcomed an egg sandwich to the table, with roasted tomato, cheddar, rosemary aioli, all stuffed in a house-made potato roll ($12 – normally comes with ham, this was the vegetarian version). The kind of egg sandwich with insides that spilled onto the plate with every bite, but so good you don’t mind being messy.
My only complaint? That the portions could have been bigger, but I see this more as a compliment, because it just means that I wanted more!
I’ll definitely be back to sip cocktails at the trailer for happy hour, and to also scope out their truffled disco fries while I’m at it!

FASHION: FC Harlem x Umbro Spring Collection

I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been pestering the dudes at FC Harlem to release their gear to the general public for almost two years now. Their logo and their kits are hands down some of the best I’ve seen, and I was begging their coaches for a hook up with some gear for a minute now.
But beyond the uniforms, FC Harlem is an amazing organization that influences inner-city kids in my hood through the game of soccer. The organization instructs over 500 youth every year and it’s goal is the create viable soccer players from the inner-city and improve the lives of at-risk youth.
This week, FC Harlem and Umbro launched their Spring collection, featuring branded tees, hoodies, jerseys and track jackets. The designs are dope, and a portion of the proceeds go to fund the FC Harlem program. Check it.

"Even Though" finds them working together for the first time, combining cross-sections of modern hip-hop and R&B along with the more neon side of UK bass music. As it turns out, the resulting collaborative effort is surely the best thing to come from either of their growing catalogs.

Hortlax Cobra "Wasteland"

It's been nearly six years since Peter Bjorn and John released the inexorably catchy indie-pop hit "Young Folks," and the song is literally still stuck in our heads. Now, PB&J drummer John Eriksson is venturing off alone as synth-based project Hortlax Cobra, and will be unveiling his debut LP, Night Shift, under that moniker next month. "Wasteland," one of the album's 10 tracks, is a sparse bit of electronic pop that features multiple layers of synths, intricate percussion, and soft vocals from Eriksson. Night Shift will be released on June 4 through the recently formed Ingrid imprint and artist collective, which, along with PB&J, counts Lykke Li and Miike Snow as members. I've talked about Stenchman a couple times before, and his unique brand of dubstep. I've wanted to do a post on him for a long while. After salvaging some of his free EPs from the laptop fiasco I decided now would be a good time to do just that!
Now don't skip out on this one cos I mentioned dubstep, 'Ol Stenchy branches out fairly regularly and while his older dubstep may fall into that stereotypical dub format, his newer stuff is fairly solid that's very nice indeed. And as always the most amazing part of Stenchman's tracks is always the name, check this!

Speaking of branching out, the Stench recently tried his hand at hip hop, bringing his trademark sound along with it. I was skeptical at first but he actually pulls it off in a very nice fashion. My only complaint with this is it could use a bit more variation, but seeing as this is taken from a free EP I can't really complain.

Now, it appears that the EP is getting a similarly impressive remix treatment. The star-studded GSX Remixes drops on UNO next week, featuring reworks by Kingdom, Girl Unit, Ikonika, DJ Rashad, Nguzunguzu, Dubbel Dutch, and Dutch E Germ. LA's Kingdom takes on Xperience closer "Corpcore" here, clearing up the original mix and adding in an array of physical bass rumbles and quick percussive flares. Yakine "Rise (feat. James Teej)"

Rising Parisian producer Yakine took a circuitous route to his current terminus in the world of techno and house, first unleashing his musical passions as a guitarist in a metal band before his love of hip-hop steered him in the direction of the dancefloor. Eventually introduced to the sounds of underground house and techno through his older brother, Yakine has since released a string of four-on-the-floor-driven singles and EPs on various European labels dating back to 2009. Next week, Yakine will be dropping his first EP for Ghostly sister label Spectral Sound, a four-song effort called Rise. The title track features the vocal stylings of Canadian DJ/producer James Teej, who interrogates listeners with a series of questions—such as "Do you wanna stay?" and "Are you going to enjoy the situation?"—before demanding, "I need an answer quick." The artwork and tracklist for Yakine's Rise EP, which comes out on May 22, can be found after the jump.

I saw this video while perusing reddit and I was amazed by this guy’s skill. THePETEBOX is one band only using his mouth, vocal chords, an assortment of mics, and a loop pedal to create some dope music. Straight from the UK, THePETEBOX is a Radio 1 Beatboxing Champion and has taken his show around Africa and Europe as well as a host of UK performances, which have mesmerized crowds at Glastonbury, Isle of White Festival, Bestival, Creamfields and V Festival amongst many others. FASHION: Cool Throwback Gap Commercial

I remember crushing on Shannyn Sossamon super heavy back in the day. And coming across this Gap commercial from 2006 just reaffirms my sentiments. Women who love all kinds of music is key. Women who love funk music and can spin records is absolutely “for the win”.
Gap and other commercial apparel brands must realize, more so than they already do, that there is a clear connection between music, design, and marketing — which ultimately leads to sales.
I would love to see more commercials like this on prime time TV. And how dope is it to see Triple Threat DJ Shortkut shredding records…in a Gap commercial!?
As my brother and Rocksmith Marketing guru Panama Johnson (aka Mr. Get It Done) loves to say – ‘whoaa baby’!

Tom Jenkinson, the man behind the roughly 17-year-old Squarepusher guise, is something of a jack of all trades. His musical output runs the full gamut of electronic sounds, touching on IDM, jazz, acid, ambient, breakbeat, and beyond, though it was all born of a distinct love for jungle and drum & bass. It's a love he returned to time and time again throughout the late '90s and early 2000s, but inexplicably abandoned for his other obsession, the bass guitar. On Ufabulum, his brand-new album for Warp, Jenkinson makes a long-awaited return to the realm of hyperreal electronic music, and brings a bit of those classic UK hardcore sounds with him.

Ted Krisko and Eric Ricker are two former party promoters who have now dedicated themselves to running the long-standing Detroit dance imprint D Records and producing house and techno jams under the moniker Ataxia. Ahead of the city's annual Movement Electronic Music Festival on Memorial Day weekend, Krisko has curated the Movement 2012 compilation, which features 18 tracks from an array of Motor City producers, including this tune, "INRIhab," from his own two-man project. The song isn't your typical Detroit affair, instead displaying a deep and grooving bassline and a soulful vocal part. The piano-led track has a distinct Crosstown Rebels vibe to it, which seems appropriate considering Krisko and Ricker once helped produce an edition of the label's Rebel Rave tour. After the jump, take a look at the tracklisting and artwork for the compilation, which is set for release on May 22, just a few days before the Movement Festival kicks off.

Since first appearing on the scene back in 2010 with his monumental debut, the Square One EP, Mosca has managed to maintain an unbelievably consistent level of quality across his output, even while continually exploring largely new factions of the bass-music spectrum with each release. Last year's "Done Me Wrong" b/w "Bax" single was steeped in classic 2-step and garage, while the Wavey EP offered up four bass-laden techno rollers, and now, with the man's first EP of the year, Eva Mendes, Mosca has taken his firmest steps into the world of house music.

Neither Ben Sims or Kirk Degiorgio is what one might call a fresh-faced new artist. Both men are veterans of the UK techno scene, and have spent the past 15-plus years putting their own spins on a style originally created half a world away in Detroit. Many artists in their position are content to rest on their laurels, relying solely on their own catalogs and the litany of classics that undoubtedly reside in their record collections, but last year Sims and Degiorgio made a conscious choice to break with the past. Seeking to move forward, the duo founded Machine, a London-based club night devoted to new music, a party where everything played has been made in the past year or so. Machine quickly found an audience, and has slowly begun to spread across the European continent, which is likely why Sims and Degiorgio have elected to take things a step further and launch their own record label. The simply titled Machine is the young imprint's first offering, and the EP unsurprisingly finds the two producers operating at a high level.

Hailing from Nelson, British Columbia LONGWALKSHORTDOC made waves with his breakthrough performances at Soundwave 2009 and Shambhala 2010. He’s now selling out venues all across Canada, including FIVESIXTY a few short years ago.
As a veteran of sound design and electronic music production, LWSD has established his own genre of music, one that is heavily influenced by early 80’s video games, rock music and vintage analog synthesis. Moreover, his vast musical library includes DM, electro, acid, house, big beat, indie-rock, drones, electronica and down tempo, ultimately making for an undeniable visceral experience.

Death Grips - "Hustle Bones" [Video]

For those familiar with Death Grips, their new video for the album-highlight "Hustle Bones" will seem exactly like what you'd expect from the inventive hard-ass hip-hop, but that doesn't make it bad in any way, quite the opposite. The kind of music found on The Money Store is thrilling enough to keep you - not inspired but - fuckin' feelin' it. And that's what they're doing. The primal inspirations in Stefan Burnett's growling vocals and Zach Hill & Andy Morin's gnarled beats gain new life through images in this love-it-or-hate-it crude-aesthetics video.
After all, what else do you need to illustrate "Hustle Bones" other than a drying machine, drugs (yeah, I know, I want that much weed too) and Stefan's always welcomed badassery? This is only for those that can differentiate between simple and simpleton.

Paradis - "Hémisphère" [Audio + Video]

The Parisian duo Paradis has raised the bar for its second 12" release on radio host Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space record label by including a strong narrative element in the construction of the A-side, "Hémisphère." Like Paradis's debut 12" on the RVNG imprint Beats In Space, "Hémisphère" contrasts light chimes and trills with chunky, dark basslines—but "Hémisphère" also comes with a video supplement.
Unless you speak French well enough to understand Paradis's silky singing, it's hard to tell from the lyrics that the song weaves themes of loss and leaving into a visually stunning and captivating 7-minute clip of sex shops, a pretty lady dancing and a violent encounter between an Asian man and a drag queen (the featured image is a screenshot from the video, which should give you an idea).
Tim Sweeney loves old school mediums like FM radio and vinyl, and so it should come as no surprise that he will release "Hémisphère" with "Je M'ennuie" as a physical 12" on May 22, followed by a digital release on May 29. The vinyl edition includes the added bonus of some trippy artwork by Brooklyn-based artist Denise Kupfershmidt. T-Shirt printing by ooshirts review

I was approached by a company that offers custom printed t-shirts, and had recently created an image I thought would make a great t-shirt. I agreed to review the t-shirt / company / process for a couple of shirts to check them out.The company is called ooshirts. Check them out @ [www.ooshirts.com]
I was given a choice of two shirt colors, and given the colors in the graphic, I went with white and ash gray, both in size Large. The shirts they used for my design were Gildan heavy cotton - 100% cotton pre-shrunk. The shirts are soft and comfortable, and the graphic has held up nicely after several washings. They have a lot of different types and qualities of shirts to print on, as well as sweatshirts and hoodies.
The company is a newer start-up company based in Berkeley, CA. I found their website very user friendly, with an easy to navigate interface. The process of uploading my design was very simple, and they are great at notifying you promptly via e-mail with what step you are at in the process. Customer Service is available via chat and phone. I used the chat help to try it out and the person I worked with was very friendly and even responded to a follow up question via direct e-mail.
Below are several images of me wearing the t-shirt. I had these pictures taken in front of a cool graffiti image just down the hill from my house.
I agreed to review this company because I felt that some of our readers would be interested in the service. After going through the process, I do recommend the company for t-shirt printing. Perfect for small print runs of promotional t-shirts for record labels, one-off special events, websites, etc.

Sid Sriram - "Elevate" (Feat. Sonny Shotz)

You might know Sid Sriram's voice from the single hit "Limitless" recorded while Sriram attended Berklee College of Music, or you may recognize it from "Youth" the uber popular single from the Dean's List's chart topping album Generation X. Either way, you will soon become better acquainted with Sid Sriram as he earlier today released his latest track "Elevate" which features a little help from Dean's List front man Sonny Shotz.
Written and produced by Sriram, the record is a very soulful and emotional piece. Always it is great to hear these guys together and I believe this is only the beginning for Sid! Per his request, the track is available for download below.

The singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer known as Jhameel is back, dropping his latest track "Are You Free." The titular track comes off his new installation, aptly named Are You Free, which following in the footsteps created by Waves, will release one track per week over the next five weeks.

"Are You Free" demonstrates Jhameel's ability to successfully blend genres fluidly, encompassing heavy synthesizers, a rock foundation, all laced with his proven Pop sensibility. Questions such as "Are you the man you fought to be/Are you strong strong enough to face yourself" fill the song, asking listeners (and perhaps Jhameel himself) to stop for a moment of introspective reflection. Are you following the dreams you once had, or did you cast them aside as unachievable? Moritz von Oswald Trio Preps New LP

The album is titled Fetch, and will be the group's third full-length effort, following last year's Horizontal Structures.

Duke Dumont - For Club Play Only Pt. 1 [EP]

Noted as the 'producer's producer' Duke Dumont has done amazing things cloaked under the guise of an esteemed remixer for major acts like Lily Allen, Bats for Lashes, and even spanning back to the Mystery Jets. A man to go to if you want your release to dictate next years trend, his knack for aural assault and effortless flair has been subject to theft. Inevitable for any artist that is obsessed with pushing the boundaries of his craft. And with that, comes the delight of disconnection as Duke Dumont moved out of the scene in London to forge his next set of numbers in the forests of Hertfordshire. An analogue introvert, and certainly not displaced as his upcoming release on Tiga's Turbo Recordings would tell you. For The Club Play Only Pt. 1 is the first installment of a string of releases that looks to showcase Dumont's uncanny sense of modular style to eyes glued to propped festival stages and praised egos.
As evidenced by the lead cut "Street Walker", which has already caused a stir in those who might otherwise with a music video driven by women of the night laced in PCP. The track refuses to stop making cameo appearances in DJ charts and mixes for renowned tastemakers like Brodinski and Daniel Avery. To let the hype simmer, the release was pushed back to May 21st and coupled with visuals that match the thought and finess that goes into a work by Duke Dumont. The B-side "Thunder Clap" is one not to miss as a mob of 808s, swung and unswung, barrage speaker stacks in an array of huffing claps. A seemingly natural production, with a tight groove that strikes the floor at its feet. The release also drops with an alternative mix of "Street Walker", for the chin scratchers that fiend on modern contemporary. Together it wraps up in a nice package, versatile for both bursting club sound systems and street ghetto blasters.

As a diehard fan of Yasiin Bey (must admit I'm still getting used to using and recognizing the artist formerly known as Mos Def's new moniker) I'm of the opinion that YB's has the ability to turn anything he's featured on into something memorable. With that said, DMV resident rhymsayer Tabi Bonney and veteran rap sensei Yasiin Bey linked up with past collaborator and killer beatsmith Ski Beatz to craft "Chop Chop', a vibrant cut off of TB's upcoming project The Endless Summer.
With the help of chromatically pitched percussion, Bonney and Bey ply their trade over Ski Beatz' Caribbean-tinged production, which exudes a certain positive 'feel good' island vibe. Check out the track below and look out for The Endless Summer, available May 17 as a free download.

Chuckie has recently been giving other electro house and Dutch house producers a run for their money with his recent work. Today I present you with his latest single which he collaborated on with Gregori Klosman. This single is everything you could want in an electro house single: a fiery intro with a climatic build that's beside a trembling kick snare pattern. When the melody comes in, you're captured by the pop-y side of the track then taken back but the heavy synth that works with a deep kick that is sure to tear up any club. Be warned; you are sure to see this one being pumped out of nightclubs and DJ's laptops for the next little while so suck up as much of this track's glistening shine as possible.

His latest offering, titled Disk II, is a gorgeous CD-R release, limited to 150 copies, which uses a hand-painted floppy disk (pictured above) as packaging. "Tape 2," the second of nine tracks collected from 2008 to 2012, is a cavernous excursion into the producer's ambient work.

FOOD: Ashiya III

Nestled quietly on Greenwich Street is Ashiya III, a very simple looking restaurant from the outside.
I have a strong love of Japanese food, so I couldn’t resist walking inside. And once inside, I couldn’t resist ordering something.
Softly lit and quiet (at least for the time of day that I went), this restaurant has serious first date potential–especially if you and your special someone decide to sit next to the glass window and take it upon yourselves to make up stories about the people walking by as you eat sushi.
*cue sappy love music*
Then you’ll gaze into each other’s eyes and sigh–we have so much in common, he/she’s the one!
What, you don’t do that on first dates? I’m the only one? Whatever–at least I don’t deny it!
*ahem*
Here’s what I got:
- Yakiudon (grilled udon noodles) with scallops, shrimp, and crab sticks
- Broccoli yakitori
Total cost of the order? About $15 bucks.
I wasn’t too crazy about the yakiudon. I’m always wary of ordering anything crab unless it’s real crab. Unfortunately, the crab in this dish was the loathsome imitation crab and I also found a few bell peppers (not a vegetable you’ll normally find in Japanese cooking). With the crab and bell peppers aside, the udon was quite all right. To be honest, I’m still looking for the elusive delicious fresh Japanese noodle dish. Maybe my next adventure will involve ramen?
The yakiudon also came with miso soup, which is standard.
The broccoli yakitori was pretty tasty. Broccoli yakitori is essentially grilled broccoli on a stick (think broccoli kebab). At Ashiya III, they drizzled it in a savory sauce and sprinkled it with sesame seeds, which made for a beautiful dish to look at.

Overall, the meal was tasty and filling, but I’m not quite sure if I could wholeheartedly recommend Ashiya III. The search for awesome Japanese food continues, my friends.

FASHION: Supra Skytop III “Native”

For years Supra has been shaking up the sneaker game with haymaker after haymaker of sneakers that are not only astetically pleasing but also durable, easy to clean, and comfy. Because of how tough (TUF) they are Supras cater more towards the grind it out skater, but that just means the lifespan of the shoe is almost doubled for the casual sneaker wearer who wouldnt put too much stress on the shoes. The Supra Skytop III has become a fan favorite and continues to impress with brand new colorways and sneaker technology. The ‘Native’ pack which features a popping red that’s slowly being consumed by the navy blue shell, as it sits on top of a thick white sole, sorta reminds me of Spiderman.
The look of it is only the beginning. The Native’s also introduces us to the a material they call Lux suede, which shows a smooth rubbery finish along with being washing machine friendly.
This is not a superficial sneaker the inside is what got me hooked! Rubber sidewalls for flexibility and stability, full EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) for adjustment to your feet and comfort, and a mesh booty makes it that more breathable.
